Yesterday in class we discussed the different versions of the classic fairytale "Snow White". It was interesting to me to read about these various fairy tales because I have never seen the Movie produced by Disney. I have always been familiar with the plot, but never had the urge to sit down and watch this classic children's film. Therefore, while reading the different versions of Snow White I was able to start out with a fresh slate and decide which version I truly liked best. Out of all the story's I read, I chose the fairytale version that I enjoyed the most. My favorite being "The Young Slave", I liked this particular version because it starts off completely different from the others, where little girls are playing an innocent game of jumping over a rose bush. The mother of Lisa "snow white" cheats during the game, and soon realizes she is pregnant. Lilla, the mother, goes and has her child blessed, however one of the fairies sets a curse that the child will die in 7 years, from a comb. The story proceeds onwards, having the child falsely die, then the mother following closely behind. Lisa comes back to life by her step mother, and is therefore treated horribly until her uncle comes to realization it is his niece. From there on the basic plot unfolds, having the "stepmother" try to kill Lisa because of her undoubtedly gorgeous looks.
I enjoyed this version because it's diverse way of telling the story, without containing hardly anything from the original versions we know of today, such as the Grimm's version or "Snow white and the Seven Dwarfs". This proves that greedy, selfish people do not always get what they want, and innocent people prevail. It always portrays a strong since of family, the uncle believed Lisa right away without any concerns, and quickly went against his wife and sent Lisa to grow into a beautiful goddess. Leaving his jealous envious wife to be sent away back to her parents.
