Today was my first day in class, and we discussed the different versions of Red Riding Hood. Each version of this historic fairytale was diverse in its own way, whether it be Red's actions towards the wolf or the moral of the story. The Three different versions of the story that we discussed were, Story of Grandmother, Perrow, and The Grims. It was interesting for me to discover that in the original version, Red outsmarts the wolf with her cunning personality. For most my childhood I was familiar with the fairytale told by the The Grims, in which Red Riding Hood does not defeat the deceiving wolf and instead a hunter has to come and rescue her. I believe that the original makes up a better story and teaches more of a moral lesson for children. Red makes her mistakes by not listening to her mother, but in the end she defeats the wolf and learns her lesson without the help of others. Therefore, out of all the versions of Red Riding Hood we discussed in class, I like the original "Story of Grandmother" the best because it truly shows the consequences for Reds actions and how she overcomes them.
