Ella Enchanted

This week in class we have been reading and discussing Ella Enchanted. I have never read this book before, and to my amazement I absolutely loved it. After reading versions of Cinderella in class it was easier to parallel the two stories together. Ella Enchanted is really just a longer more elaborated version of Disney's Cinderella. However, I found that I enjoyed reading about Ella's life than I did the original Cinderella. Ella is cursed with the act of obedience, which gives the novel a little twist. Who knew being obedient would be so difficult, but it's defintely proven in the novel how hard it really is. My favorite thing about Ella enchanted was all the fantasy incorporated into it, the ogres, fairies, gnomes, and giants, all play a role with making this novel incredibly entertaining. Ella strikes me as a brave, rebellious girl. With her constant state of trying to break her curse, and persistant journey throughout the novel in finding herself makes her appear as not a typical candidate for Cinderella. Although this specific character of Cinderella has a father, he is absent throughout the novel, making it seem as though her father is tru.y not there. Her mother has died, and is replaced by a wicked stepmother who makes Ella do all the chores. Ella has a fairy godmother in the role of a servant in their house, she also has 2 stepsisters who constantly order her to do things, thus using her curse against her. This specific version of Cinderella is so fun and exciting it keeps you entertained for hours!
